Los Olivos school facing big budget cuts

Photo

Four teachers at Los Olivos Elementary School could receive pink slips and the drama, music and sports programs could be eliminated at a special school board meeting tonight as the district decides how to cut an estimated $200,000 from its budget.

CITIZEN COMMENTARY

America, the land of choices

To the writer of “Stop handouts to undeserving”:

First, Mexico is not calling for the “Great American Boycott” or “Nothing Gringo” on May 1. It's for the legal - or not - immigrants who would like to participate. It would be a very ignorant and foolish idea to close government, medical, transportation offices, etc. Why should we citizens need to be punished on that day, as many will be needing access to those facilities? Everybody has the freedom to make the choice to participate or not. That's what's so great about this country!

Since January, the Solvang Triathlon Club has been a training and educational group where athletes at all levels can meet, learn and enjoy every aspect of the sport.

For club president and co-founder Jesse Leyva, the creation of the club was a labor of love from the start.
