Santa Ynez wrestlers Casey Ellis, Chris Lastra and Matt Giles all had solid finishes at the recent Pete Duca Invitational at Nipomo High School.
Ellis finished fourth at 125 pounds. Lastra (145) and Giles (160) both finished fifth in their weight classes.
Ellis and Lastra each went 5-2 in the tournament. Giles went 4-2.
Both of them were optimistic about their team’s long-range prospects.
“We should at least get second in (the Los Padres League) and make the CIF (Southern Section) Tournament,” said Ellis.
Giles said, “We have some kids who have been wrestling for their entire high school careers. I’m pretty sure we’ll have a good chance against Morro Bay.” Morro Bay is the defending Los Padres League champion and the top-ranked team in the CIF Southern Section Division 6.
