Friday was a night to remember for Misael Diaz as was crowned the 2010 Homecoming king of Santa Ynez Valley Union High School during halftime of the boys varsity basketball game.

Diaz was crowned by Dakota McIntyre, last year’s Homecoming king.

The previous day had been filled with excitement as all the nominees for king competed at a school assembly Thursday afternoon.

“Arabian Nights” was the theme for the Homecoming court Thursday, when the princes were introduced during an assembly in the gym.

Diaz received the biggest cheers as he made his way to the chairs reserved for the nominees, who also included Daniel Barbosa, Skyler Barrick, Luke Butcher, Luke Harmon, Tyler Shean, Mason Van Valin and Chris Wagstaffe.

As each prince was seated, his name and interests were announced over the public address system. Students also enjoyed presentations from the cheerleading squads and student government representatives as well as a multimedia slideshow on the life of each prince.

Before the competitions between the princes started, each winter sports team was announced and varsity team members gave short speeches about their seasons.
