Student attending Shakespeare seminar
Cecilia McKinnon of Solvang, who attends Santa Ynez Valley Union High School, is one of 65 students selected from 104 applicants from across the United States to attend the Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s 2009 Summer Seminar for High School Juniors from Aug. 3 to 15.
The Summer Seminar, started in 1981, is a rigorous two-week program designed for a select group of theater students who have recently completed their junior year in high school. Students stay on the campus at Southern Oregon University, where OSF’s theatre professionals present workshops and forums on a variety of topics.
Students will gain insight into the workings of a successful repertory theatre company, and will attend forums and workshops on such topics as theatre administration, stage management, costume construction, scenic painting, properties, sound and theatrical lighting, as well as Renaissance dance, stage combat, marketing and publicity, fundraising, auditioning techniques, and movement and voice for the stage. In addition, the students will attend nine of OSF’s productions and work together on projects.
