Sports Briefs: Miles Seeman reaches USTA title match

Top seeds Alex Jensen of Lompoc and Sophia Whittle of Nipomo both won their divisions at the 22nd annual Santa Maria Junior Tournament Monday.
The tournament was USTA-sanctioned.
Jensen defeated Miles Seeman of Solvang 6-2, 6-2 in the Boys 16 Singles championship match. Whittle downed second-seeded Amber Petersen of Atascadero 6-2, 6-2.
Whittle teamed with Annette Sousa to win the Girls 14 Doubles crown. The top-ranked tandem defeated Kelsie Bryant and Taryn Mjelde 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the final.
All championship matches took place at the Santa Maria Country Club. Seeman was a doubles standout for Santa Ynez High School last school year.
Third-ranked Jaime Barajas of Los Angeles rallied past top seed Eli Whittle of Nipomo 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 for the Boys 14 Singles title. The other top-seeded singles players won championship matches.
Joshua Wang of Goleta downed third seed Nolan Rucker of Ventura 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 to take the Boys 12 Singles title. Miles Hart of Santa Barbara downed second-ranked Kevin Ha of Carpinteria 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 to win the Boys 10 Singles title. Erica Cano defeated fellow Santa Barbara resident, second-ranked Zoe Miller, 6-0, 6-3 in the Girls 18 championship match, and Anna Tatsuno of Rancho Palos Verdes defeated St. Joseph sophomore-to-be Frankie Eszes 6-2, 6-1 in the Girls 16 championship match.
Jake Eszes, Frankie’s brother and St. Joseph star, teamed with Zachary Scott to win the Boys 18 doubles championship. They rallied pat top-raked David Mossman and Michael Rodriguez 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Tyler Shean wins CVJGA Golf Tourney
Tyler Shean defeated Shane Sideris on the first hole of a sudden death playoff at the Certified Financial Golf Tournament at the Alisal River Golf Course in Solvang on Tuesday, June 17.
Shean and Sideris finished the tournament tied with an even-par 72 in the Coastal Valley Junior Golf Association event.
By winning the playoff, Shean won the overall championship. Sideris picked up the winner’s title in the boys 15-17 year old division.
Nick Summerville shot a 74 for second place in the boys 15-17 division with Cody Morse’s 79 good for third place.
In the boys 12-14 division, Landon Brown took home the first place trophy after firing a 76. Mitchell Martin and Doug Merrin tied for second with identical 82s.
In the girls tournament, Danielle Gillaspy took home the championship trophy after shooting an 81.
In the girls nine-hole tournament, Desiree Gillaspy carded a 57 to win the division.
In the boys 11-and-under division, Jack Avrit shot a 46 over nine holes for the title.
