Lompoc Museum to hold sculpture exhibit
By Staff
Lompoc Museum’s Centeno Gallery is showing a new exhibit: “A Medley of Sculpture” featuring the works of members of the Lompoc Sculptors Guild. An artist’s reception is planned from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 13.
More than 50 very unique pieces of sculpture are currently on display. The exhibit provides only a glimpse of the multifaceted skills and creative passions of the eight members represented. The exhibit runs through Sept. 5.
The artists represented include Ron Barrows, Ann Brink, Dee Frasher, Kenneth E. Jorgensen, Peggy Kizziah, Noreen LaPointe, Carol Seefeldt Moore and Eric Morlan. The artists work in a variety of mediums: Ceramics, clay, fiber, glass, gourd, metal, multimedia, plaster, stone, Styrofoam and wood. All can be found in the current exhibit.
Since its inception in 1989, the Lompoc Sculptors Guild has provided central coast sculptors with a forum for discussion, support, and creativity. At informal monthly meetings, members discuss new ideas, artistic trends, and innovative mediums. Because sculpture is largely a solitary endeavor, the Guild provides a valuable support system for its diverse membership.
“The value of the guild lies in its unity and diversity,” said member Dee Frasher.
The Guild always welcomes new members interested in advancing and sharing their unique talents and creative instincts. There are no fees or dues required, just a desire to advance and share one’s unique talents and creative instincts.
Anyone interested in joining the Guild, can contact one of its members directly. Member contact and background information is available at the exhibit, or stop by and meet the artists at the artist reception.
The Lompoc Museum is open to the public from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The museum is closed Mondays and on July 4. It will have extended Friday hours until 7 p.m. during Olde Towne Market (July 11 through Aug. 29).
For more information, call Lisa Renken, director at 736-3888 (before June 12); or e-mail lompocmuseum@impulse.net. After June 12, call Dee Frasher at 733-2626.
