Draft EIS Released for the Cachuma Lake Recreation Area Management Plan; Public Meeting Scheduled, Santa Barbara County


The Bureau of Reclamation and the Cachuma Operation and Maintenance Board will hold an informational open house for all interested parties regarding the Cachuma Lake Recreation Area Resource Management Plan (RMP). A Draft Environmental Impact Statement Draft EIS has been prepared to describe the potential environmental impacts of the RMP. Alternatives for the RMP will be presented and discussed.


The RMP is being developed to guide the management of natural resources at Cachuma Lake. The Cachuma Lake Draft EIS will evaluate the existing resource management of Cachuma Lake. The project purpose consists of: (1) Protecting the water supply and water quality functions of Cachuma Lake; (2) protecting and enhancing natural and cultural resources in the Recreation Area, consistent with Federal law and Reclamation policies; and (3) providing recreational opportunities and facilities consistent with the original Cachuma Project purposes, and Reclamation policies.


A public meeting will be held to provide information, and receive written comments on the Draft EIS in Solvang, Tuesday, August 26, 2008, from 6:30-9 p.m., at the Veterans Memorial Hall, 1745 Mission Drive.


The Draft EIS was prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and the California Environmental Quality Act and is available for a 30-day public review.
